With J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth being as massive as it is, you can bet that the IP can cover several branches of media from books to TV and movies. One particular well that is currently dry is the video game department for LOTR, but it looks like we’re going to be seeing a change in the next two years.
As per the parent company of Middle-earth Enterprises Embracer Group (via @FellowshipFans), there are actually five LOTR games in development, and they’re expected to release in the within the next two years. Here’s the post:
We don’t have any details of what the games are, but so far we have two games that have been announced; the stealth-based Gollum game as well as the dwarf-centric Return to Moria which will bring players back to the realm of Khazad-dum.
With the Shadow of Mordor games being deemed as very expensive fan-fiction, I think there’s room for a reboot of those games, or a spiritual sequel; possibly set in the world of Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
One well-loved game from the franchise was the tie-in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King game from EA which also featured voices from the original cast members. I’m sure there are fans that would love to get a remake featuring events from all three films; I guess it would just be an issue of bringing back the original cast. How about a Hobbit version of that game with Martin Freeman?
So far, we don’t know what all these upcoming games wll be, but hopefully we get an update soon.
