You can play the game and earn money simultaneously, though your earnings are in the form of cryptocurrencies. However, the game isn’t free, and you have to spend some cash before enjoying the whole experience.

How to Play Axie Infinity
Axie Infinity runs on Ethereum, a popular cryptocurrency. To play Axie Infinity, you’ll need an Ethereum wallet.

- Register for an Axie Infinity account on the Marketplace.
- Download the Ronin Wallet browser extension for Google Chrome or Firefox.
- Open the extension.
- Under “Activate Ronin Wallet,” select “Attach Ronin To Account.”
- Use Ronin Bridge to deposit some Ethereum from your main wallet to Ronin.
- Buy three Axies from the Marketplace.
- Once you have three Axies, you can download the app and play the game.
Axies can cost from $190, and you’ll need three of them. The rarest Axies can sell for $120,000, as it did in late 2020.
Axie Infinity Objectives
Players of Axie Infinity have one main goal: to gain Small Love Potions (SLP). SLP is used for breeding Axies, and once successful, deploy them in the game for various purposes.
To earn SLP, you can play in one of two game modes:

- Arena Battle
Once you earn enough SLP, you need to spend AXS as well. AXS, or Axie Infinity Shards, is a new cryptocurrency designed specifically for Axie Infinity. Breeding requires both to be successful.
Each Axie can only breed seven times before becoming sterile. The developers implemented this to prevent oversaturation of desirable Axies.
Axies have genetics, and they pass traits down to their offspring. As a result, breeding is much more than letting two of them mate. You have to factor in each creature’s genes, and even then, it’s not easy to get the traits you want.
There are three genes, and each of them has a certain chance for inheritance. Therefore, it’s possible to breed an Axie with utterly different genetics from its parents.
If you have a rare Axie you wish to sell; you can place it in the Marketplace. Axies can become extremely expensive, as we mentioned above. The prices are also only going up.
There are even players who quit their jobs to play Axie Infinity, as it’s a game that lets you “play to earn.”
