In Anno 1800, you manage an entire city, seeing to your citizens’ daily needs, and occasionally, desires. All cities start from a primitive era, but eventually, you’ll progress and develop modern technology. Much like real life, Artisans use their skills to make intricate objects for aesthetic and practical use. This job is also available in Anno 1800.
Although Artisans are essential to the growth of your city, new players may not know how to upgrade their citizens to Artisans. That’s where this guide comes in handy. Keep on reading to find out how to convert your Workers into Artisans and elevate your city.
Before Getting Artisans in Anno 1800
Initially, all players start with Farmer Residences. Once you provide a Farmer’s Residence with their needs, you can upgrade it and convert it into a Worker Residence.
Each Farmer Residence requires the following items:
- Market
- Fish
- Work Clothes
After they get their basic needs, you can provide them with luxury needs:
- Schnapps
- Pub
Supplying the Farmer Residence with a pub will allow you to have 150 Workers. It’s at this point that you can upgrade it.
Once you have a Worker’s Residence, you must also work on providing the Workers their needs, including everything mentioned above as well as:
- Sausages
- Bread
- Soap
- School
- Church
- Beer
These Residences are crucial to your Anno 1800 game, and you can’t avoid upgrading them.
Obtaining Artisans in Anno 1800
A Worker Residence becomes an Artisan Residence when you fulfill its inhabitants’ needs. However, you also need a total of 750 Workers before unlocking the latter becomes possible.
Artisan Residences require these materials as well:
- 12 Timber
- Two Bricks
- Two Steel Beams
When you fulfill the needs of an Artisan Residence, you can further upgrade it into an Engineer Residence.
Artisans have needs, too, so be sure to provide them everything on this list.
- Sausages
- Bread
- Soap
- School
- Canned Food
- Sewing Machines
- Fur Coats
- University
- Church
- Beer
- Variety Theater
- Rum
Rum, in particular, is a difficult resource to obtain because you need certain New World ingredients to produce it. Keep reading to find out more about the Rum-making process.
Making Rum
Eventually, you’ll want to upgrade your Artisans into Engineers, but in the meantime, giving them Rum will keep them happy. Thus, it’s a good idea to make Rum production a priority as well.
To create Rum, you need to head to the New World and build some Rum Distilleries. They can only be made there. Once you have some Distilleries, start gathering Sugar Cane and Wood. You need two units of both materials to produce a ton of Rum per minute.
You can reduce the production time with items as well. Boosts will increase your Rum supply without long waits.
Each Rum Distillery can support 35 Artisans. However, having many Artisans isn’t always the solution as you’ll have to construct more Distilleries to meet the Rum demand. Supplying the Artisans with Rum keeps them happy, and happy Artisans are more productive.
What Artisans Do
Artisans work in factories and businesses, and they’ll eventually become a mandatory part of your city. As Artisans can produce Windows and other goods, you’ll get to build Town Halls and other essential buildings once you have them.
Expert Craftsmanship Comes at a Price
Artisans are the next step to modern cities, and you can’t advance without them. Even though they have many demands, you’ll find that they aren’t the worst of your citizens. Nevertheless, it would be best if you prioritize their needs to take advantage of their services.
