Metal Slug Tactics isn’t even out yet, but the studio that developed the game, Leikr, has been acquired by an even bigger publisher.
Focus Entertainment, the studio behind Evil West and A Plague Tale: Requiem has confirmed their acquisition of Leikr Studios. Here’s the official announcement:
President of Focus Home Interactive writes:
“Following Deck13, StreumOn, Dotemu and Douze-Dixièmes, it is with great pleasure that we welcome a fifth studio to the Focus Group… We are constantly looking for new talents capable of growing and supporting the ambitions of our Group, and Leikir Studio, headed by Aurélien Loos, is a choice acquisition to achieve this objective.”
We don’t know exactly what Leikr is going to do on Focus yet, but I can imagine that they should be tasked to reinvent some IP that could be owned by Focus. After all, they did take a 2D platformer like Metal Slug and turn it into a tactics-based game—but it still had the look and feel of the classic Slug games.
President of Leikr, Aurélien Loos, had this to say about joining Focus:
“We are happy to join the Focus Group because it is an important step for the growth of our studio. This
acquisition validates our multi-production strategy and will allow us to reach new qualitative and creative heights. This is a great recognition for the work accomplished by our teams over the past several years.”
For now, fans are just waiting to get their hands on Metal Slug Tactics to see what kind of hype led Leijer to be acquired by Focus. No release date has been set, but you can expect MST to come out for the PC and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2022.
