Lord of the Rings is set to make a comeback this year with Amazon Prime Video’s The Rings of Power, but it looks like EA is also set to bring fans back to the fantasy realm of Middle-Earth.
According to Polygon, Electronic Arts has just announced The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-Earth. We don’t have a look at any gameplay or promo art yet, but it will be coming from EA Capital Games, the same studio that launched 2015’s Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes.
The release statement says that Heroes of Middle-Earth is “the first mobile game developed by EA, inspired by storylines, locations, characters, and lore from The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit literary works.” The studio also promises “high-fidelity graphics, cinematic animations, and stylized art.”
With Galaxy of Heroes allowing access to multiple characters across several eras of Star Wars, we should expect the same thing for this Middle-earth game. While we could get characters from the fellowship like Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, or Aragorn, we should also expect to get access to characters from a prequel like The Hobbit. Though Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield sound like no-brainers, I would love to get access to the entire dwarf company as well as other wizards like Radagast the Brown.
We shouldn’t forget Rings of Power as well. That show is set to have its own set of original characters as well as younger versions of immortals like Galadriel and Elrond. Hopefully the game launches sometime around the series premiere this September 2.
No release date has been announced for the mobile game Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth.
