We know that there are people who like to take spiritual retreats to take a break from the hustle and bustle of normal life, and though these places are made to make you feel calmer, Koch Media wants to give the setting a new horror twist.

Enlightenment Becomes Dread in Teaser for The Chant

Here’s the first teaser for The Chant:

Prepare your mind, body, and soul as something wicked this way comes…

We don’t have a story synopsis for the game, but I guess the mystery is the main hook of The Chant. While the game starts out pretty standard with its meditation tent and spirit guides dressed in white, the tune dramatically shifts into horror, as everything isn’t what it seems in the camp.

Admittedly, we’re already getting a lot of slasher titles this year with the recent launch of Evil Dead: The Game and June’s The Quarry, but hopefully The Chant has something different to bring to the table; I mean, why else would it only be coming to new-gen consoles?

With the horror genre recently embracing more experimentation with films like Midsommar and Hereditary, it would be great if we could get a horror game that tries to really sell the horror vibe, not just with the shock and gore, but with the lingering dread and atmosphere that modern horror films have been using a lot of. It’s just an idea.

The Chant is set to come to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC sometime this fall; no specific release date has been announced.
