It might be a while before we can get the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back on the big screen, but this summer will be the release of a retro-inspired game called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. Just in, developers Dotemu have given us a look at the design of the game, and how they drew inspiration from the 90s arcade classic.

Informed by a childhood love for the world of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Tribute Games analyzed the series’ past beat-em-ups to ensure Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge faithfully captures the spirit of TMNT and its classic games. Delivering an elevated, modernized experience fans deserve was equally important to the team, leading Tribute Games to include smart refinements including unique attributes and moves to accentuate each character’s personality.

Though it’s a given that all four turtles will be playable in the game, the devs have made it so you can actually pick between more characters like April O’Neil, Splinter, and probably more down the line.

There is also a heavy emphasis on teamwork, so you can play up to four characters in one level, and there are even moves that you can pull off with a partner. While there is a standard mode where you can jump right in on the action, there is also a mode where you can pick and choose which levels you play, so you can fulfill specific quests and challenges.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is set to come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch sometime this summer.
