There were a lot of great reveals during last week’s State of Play, and one game that definitely has interests piqued is The Callisto Protocol from Striking Distance Studios. The game pretty much embraces the sci-fi horror of Dead Space and Alien, and we have a new trailer.
Watch this:
Here’s the official story description:
Set on Jupiter’s moon Callisto in the year 2320, The Callisto Protocol is a next-generation take on survival horror. The game challenges players to escape the maximum-security Black Iron Prison and uncover its terrifying secrets. A blend of horror, action, and immersive storytelling, The Callisto Protocol game aims to set a new bar for horror in interactive entertainment.
We know that a Dead Space remake is set to come out early next year, but Callisto Protocol seems to be somewhat of a spiritual successor to the Dead Space games. Not only do we have a derelict science fiction setting, but we also have the hero running from reanimated corpses gruesomely designed to bring out the most in body horror.
At one point, I was even expecting the protagonist to shoot limbs off the monsters.
With a release set for later this year, we could have a new look at the game sometime around the holidays. My guess is we could get a drop around Halloween, since this is the perfect property for anyone looking to get spooked.
You can read more about the game on the official site here.
The Callisto Protocol is set to launch for PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC this Dec. 2.
