Fans were expecting WB Montreal’s Gotham Knights to be based on the Arkham games, but it looks like the studio has built an entirely new Gotham City to help tell the story of the Court of Owls.
Thanks to IGN, we have a new deep dive into the history of this new Gotham and how the Five Burroughs ended up being influenced by the main five families of ancient Gotham City. Watch this:
Get a look at Gotham Knights Gotham City, and hear about how it was created. Gotham Knights’ brand new version of Gotham City saw the developers invent an entire 400 year timeline for the town. In our latest Gotham Knights IGN First, we delve into how this new take on the city was created, and how it fits together.
While I’m sure there are fans who thought the Arkham maps were enough, you have to hand it to WB Montreal for having the guts to build an entirely new map from the ground-up. What’s more, the city is designed in a way that it kind of explains the history of Gotham, influenced by the history and growth of industry in America.
Though there are a lot of original elements to the game, you can’t help but shake the influence of the Arkham titles though. Even though Batman is gone, it’s going to be interesting trying to get into the old history of Gotham as his protégés—all looking to uncover the conspiracy of the Court of Owls.
Gotham Knights launches for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Oct. 25.
