It seems that the rumors are true.
A few days ago, we got a report that seemingly confirms new details for the next Assassin’s Creed game; and now Ubisoft has officially announced the next entry in the franchise, Assassin’s Creed Mirage. Check it out:
While we don’t have any official details on the post, we can probably assume that a lot of the specifics from the rumor are also true—after all, they did accurately report the title. Besides the Mirage subtitle, it was also said that the game will be a ‘return to basics’ for the AC franchise, and that the story will take place in ancient Baghdad.
We don’t really know what ‘returning to basics’ means, but if I were to make a guess, we would be thrust into a smaller open-world very little focus on leveling up.
Though sequels are always expected to be larger than their previous entries, the Assassin’s Creed games that have been coming out today have been all about customization and allowing players to fully explore an open, expansive world. Heck, Valhalla even went so far as to have players customize entire villages.
I, for one, welcome a simpler, more straightforward narrative. While options may not be limitless, it does allow for developers to infuse more meaning in the smaller missions and collectibles. After all, I am a quality over quantity kind of gamer.
No release date has been announced for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, but we should learn more about the game this coming Sept. 10 during Ubisoft Forward.
