Square Enix is currently sitting on the successful launch of Crisis Core – FFVII – Reunion, but that doesn’t mean they’re done with the world of Final Fantasy VII yet. A mobile game set in the same timeline is slated to release next year, and we have a look at FFVII Ever Crisis.

Watch this:

The official description for the game reads:

[Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis is] a chapter-structured single player game covering the whole of the FFVII timeline – including the events of the original game and the FFVII compilation titles.

Though we have the chance to experience the story of Final Fantasy VII with the flashy new aesthetic of the remake, Ever Crisis feels like something closer to the original FFVII, with the chibi avatars, and the turn-based combat.

I think it’s also worth noting that with Ever Crisis, we won’t just be covering the events of FFVII, but everything else that happened in the spinoffs including Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, and the film Advent Children.

With Square planning an overly-expansive arc for the Remake trilogy, Ever Crisis should feel like a nice compact telling of the story on your mobile device. Even then, I have a feeling that it will tell a different story with the one Remake is trying to tell.

No release date has been set for Final Fantasy VII Ever Crisis, but you can watch out for the close beta which is set to launch sometime in 2023.
