Callisto Protocol may not have been the new Dead Space it was hoping to be, but a literally new Dead Space is releasing next year that promises to fully remake the original hit survival horror game.
Just in, IGN has dropped a new featurette giving a look at the upcoming remake and it takes a deep-dive into the history of the horror genre, and how the original Dead Space helped redefine it. Watch this:
The developers of the Dead Space remake discuss the impact the original Dead Space had on survival horror, and how new technology will redefine its scares for a new generation. Dead Space is December’s IGN First! Check out our other exclusive videos covering the upcoming remake.
Alongside the updates on the atmosphere of the game, the whole setting has also been altered when it comes to the Ishimura starship. While the original game had separated the ship throughout the narrative, the new one will allow an ‘open-world’ Ishimura that players can completely backtrack as they progress. Hopefully this means we’re also going to be getting some extra missions and story.
I know there are a lot of complaints about remakes nowadays, but with the Dead Space franchise having been so dormant, I think a remake would be a great jumping-off point for fans who didn’t even try the original.
Here’s the official description for the game:
Something has gone horribly wrong on board the mining ship, USG Ishimura.
The sci-fi survival horror classic Dead Space returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up to offer a deeper and more immersive experience. This remake brings jaw-dropping visual fidelity and suspenseful atmospheric audio, as well as new gameplay content and improvements while staying faithful to the original game’s thrilling vision.
The Dead Space remake is set to launch on Jan. 27, 2023 for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC.
