Almost every big IP seems to have its Mario Kart clone from Sonic the Hedgehog to Crash Bandicoot, and Disney has been teasing their own version called Disney Speedstorm which will have classic Disney characters racing for supremacy in Disney-themed tracks.
What’s great is, the game is launching on early access next month on April 18. Here’s the announcement:
Though we have seen characters like Sully and Mulan in the game before, the preview does give us a reveal of even more Disney characters like Hercules, Meg, Baloo, and Mowgli. Even Mike Wazowski’s girlfriend Cilia is a playable driver in the game.
We don’t know how Speedstorm will set itself apart from other Mario Kart clones, but it looks like each driver will come with their won special abilities on the track. While Mario Kart and CTR have mechanics that allow players to pick up weapons as they go, it seems that every racer in the Speedstorm roster has moves unique to them, like Mulan using fireworks or Donald covering his car in cartoon punches.
Though this trailer just announces when Early Access will launch, I’m hoping we get a more extensive preview soon that gives us a look at all the playable characters and the available Disney maps that have been turned to tracks. You think it’s too much to ask if Sora could be in the game? I mean, Smash was able to pull it off.
Early Access for Disney Speedstorm will launch on April 18 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
