Puzzle games come in all shapes and sizes nowadays, but the makers of Tetris Effect and Rez Infinite have something very unique on their hands.
Humanity is a game where you take control of a Shiba Inu that guides hordes of people through a puzzle, and the game is set to come out next month. Just in, PlayStation has revealed a new trailer that harkens to old Japanese commercials for the original PlayStation. Check this out:
The official description reads:
We wanted to announce the May 16 launch for our action-puzzle game, Humanity, with a trailer that genuinely reflects the game: fun, a bit weird (in a good way!), and starring an adorable lil’ Shiba Inu. Oh, and notably: clearly, undeniably Japanese.
What better way to do that than to recreate the wild – and brilliant – Japanese PlayStation ad campaigns of the PS1 and PS2 era? (If you haven’t seen them, we promise it’s worth a search here on YouTube!). We’ve been incredibly flattered to hear Humanity compared to classics of this era, the late ’90s and 2000s, a golden age for unique, designer-led Japanese games that defied conventional genres. And whether you share that nostalgia or were even gaming back then, we hope you’ll enjoy that same spirit in Humanity: stylish and different, but with a deeply satisfying game at the core.
With the game having such a silly premise, it would only make sense that the ads were silly too. Though fans can have fun with the puzzle provided in the game, Humanity also promises to allow players to create their stages and have people from around the world access your puzzle.
With Stray focusing on a cat protagonist, Humanity ups the ante by having a regular dog guiding a ridiculous crowd of humans.
Humanity launches for the PlayStation 4|5 on May 16.
