Last year CD Projekt Red had announced several projects in the works including sequels and spinoffs to The Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. While fans have just been waiting for updates, it looks like one of the projects has had a change in development.

The Witcher: CDPR has Laid Off Several Developers for Project Sirius

Accoring to GameSpot, Project Sirius, which is said to be a new kind of Witcher game, has had a change in its framework, and has resulted in developer layoffs. The company tells GameSpot:

“Because the project changed, so has the composition of the team that’s working on it–mainly on The Molasses Flood’s side. The concrete number of employees we parted ways with is 21 team members in the US and 8 in Poland (working on the project outside of the US). We do not provide additional information on the subject.”

We don’t really know why the Molasses Flood team got reduced or what exactly this ‘new framework’ of the game is, but layoffs are never nice to hear about. With the game having a reduced number of developers, I’m starting to feel that this Witcher spinoff could be for a smaller game, as compared to the more extensive Witcher entries which tend to get massive.

After somehow salvaging their reputation from a disastrous Cyberpunk launch, CDPR has gotten fans excited for their upcoming games. Let’s just hope they manage to keep the hype up without getting any more controversies regarding crunch culture or mass layoffs.

No release date has been announced for Project Sirius, but hopefully we can get an update on it (and all the other CDPR projects) before the year ends.
