The Assassin’s Creed games have definitely gotten larger since the release of Black Flag, but Ubisoft is looking to come back to a more compact, narrative-driven game with the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Mirage. The PlayStation Showcase gave us a look at the gameplay, and we get to see new character Basim in action.

Here’s the official description of the game:
In Assassin’s Creed Mirage, you are Basim, a cunning street thief with nightmarish visions, seeking answers and justice. After an act of deadly retribution, Basim flees Baghdad and joins an ancient organization – The Hidden Ones. As he learns their mysterious rituals and powerful tenets, he will hone his unique abilities, discover his true nature, and come to understand a new Creed – one that will change his fate in ways he never could have imagined.
With the way the Assassin’s Creed franchise has expanded, it’s kind of easy to forget that the games started out as a science-fiction genre action platformer which had players take on a character who can access their ancestral memories thanks to technology. We don’t know if any of that will be in Mirage, but it could very well be a nice re-entry point for anyone who hasn’t been keeping up with the series.
And though Ubisoft is coming back to an older Assassin’s formula with Mirage, we should expect some future games to keep to the prevalent open-world formula that they’ve been using for Odyssey and Valhalla.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set to release for the PlayStation 4|5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on Oct. 12.
