Here’s how to get the Beam Drone in Risk of Rain Returns.

How To Get the Beam Drone in Risk of Rain Returns

Achievements in games are typically there to appease the perfectionist gamer’s itch – but not in Risk of Rain Returns. In Risk of Rain Returns, collecting specific achievements adds to your game completion percentage and can unlock alternate abilities, such as the Engineer’s V.0.2 Prototype Laser Turret ability.

To unlock the Engineer’s V.0.2 Prototype Laser Turret, however, you’ll first need to get the Beam Drone in-game. In this quick guide, we’ll walk you through how to get the Beam Drone in Risk of Rain Returns.

How to Get Beam Drones in Risk of Rain Returns

You can get the Beam Drone by combining three Laser Drones at a Drone Combination Station. Before you can do that, however, you’ll first need to find three Laser Drones and preserve them throughout your run until you can find a Drone Combination Station.

Don’t expect to find Laser Drones in the early game, as it is only in stages three and four that these drones show up more regularly. You must also be playing as the Engineer to find Laser Drones in the game.

In the latter stages of your run, you can also purchase Beam Drones on the Contact Light ship for 3000+. Beam Drones are more durable versions of the Laser Drones and feature a similar piercing attack.

What is the Beam Drone for in Risk of Rain Returns?

The Beam Drone is required to unlock the Amplified achievement for the Engineer in Risk of Rain Returns. Getting the Amplified achievement will also unlock the Engineer’s V.0.2 Prototype Laser Turret ability.

It might be worth setting the game to a much lower difficulty level if you’re just looking to acquire the Beam Drone to unlock the Amplified achievement for the Engineer. By playing at a more manageable difficulty, acquiring three Laser Drones and surviving long enough to find a Drone Combination Station should be more doable.

Final Thoughts

Getting the Beam Drone won’t be easy, as you’ll need to find three Laser Drones and combine them at a Drone Combination Station. You’ll also need to ensure all three Laser Drones are in working condition, or you won’t be able to combine them.

The Beam Drone is a powerful companion that can help you navigate the latter stages of Risk of Rain: Returns. Getting the Beam Drone will unlock the Amplified achievement, which unlocks the Engineer’s V.0.2 Prototype Laser Turret, making collecting these turrets a worthwhile goal in the latter parts of your run.
