Assassin’s Creed Valhalla has been out for almost a week now and players are starting to hit barriers to their progressions towards the end of the game. A quick look on Twitter shows many players are stumped and annoyed that they’ll have to reach power 340 to tackle the last area of the game.
But what if I told you that you don’t? It’s true: You don’t need to get to power 340 to finish the story. In fact, you can be well under 300 and still finish the final showdown. Still, many players are asking the questions ‘how long to beat Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’ and ‘how to level up fast in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.’
These are needless questions, my dears. For reference, I managed to plough through the story in a little under 30 hours. I did do some side-content, including the Asgard questline, but I’ve still got a lot of mysteries to solve and wealth to plunder. Right now I’m sitting at power level 278, and I’ve beaten the game comfortably.
Now, before going forward, there will be a few spoilers, and I mean MAJOR spoilers. If you don’t want to read any Assassin’s Creed Valhalla spoilers, click away now.
So, with that warning out of the way, let me tell you how I personally managed to do it.
Again, SPOILERS!!!
Once you’ve played as Layla for the last time in the modern-day section and Basim has come back to life, complete with his Big Kyle Energy wolf and moon t-shirt, you’ll still have one last pledge to make inside the animus as Eivor.
The recommended power level for this area is 340, which is a massive undertaking. You’ll be spending hours upon hours travelling around England to complete as many side-missions as possible, as well as mopping up any leftover wealth that you skipped over during the main story to reach that level. Don’t worry, though, you don’t need to do this. So long as you’re around level 260 and upwards, beating the last pledge is straightforward, and, if you want to make things a little easier, you can dive into the game’s options to tweak the difficulty in your favour. There’s no punishment for doing this and you won’t lose any achievement/trophy progress for switching to an easier difficulty.
My suggestion is to get to at least level 260 and then just go for it. Simple as that. Make sure you’ve got your rations pouch upgraded so that you’re able to heal often and also make sure you’re familiar with the dodge button, because you’ll be spamming the ever-loving-crap out of it, but you’ll be able to finish the game without having to get to a ridiculous level. And, if you do tweak the difficulty, it’s honestly no harder than anything you will have already tackled earlier in the game.
Honestly, I’m surprised more people haven’t figured this out. What’s more surprising is that some people are taking up to 70 hours to beat the story when it can be done in less than half the time. Hopefully, with my suggestions, you’ll be done and dusted and ready to move onto your next open-world game in no time.
