October is finally here, and next week will see the launch for Overwatch 2, free to play for all major consoles. Ahead of launch though, Blizzard has released a new trailer showcasing all of the things we should expect from this highly-anticipated sequel.
Watch this:
Though a lot of the core elements of the original Overwatch will be kept for the sequel, we should still expect multiple changes with the game, including a change in the number of team members as well as reworks for some classic characters.
Speaking of characters, we’re also getting some new faces in the form of heroes Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko. While Sojourn and Kiriko will be available at launch for free, Kiriko will only come free to players who already own the first iteration of Overwatch.
Admittedly, there is a lot of pressure for Blizzard to deliver with this sequel. Not only has the game been hyped up for so many years, but fans are starting to feel sceptical about the launch ever since game director Jeff Kaplan left the studio. That’s not even mentioning all the controversy that’s been surrounding Blizzard the past few months; from the supposed ‘frat boy culture’ of the studio heads to something called a ‘Cosby Room.’
Either way, I’m choosing to be optimistic about the launch. I’m sure there is still a lot of love that went into the development of the game, and I’m hopeful this will put OW back on top of the hero shooter genre.
Overwatch 2 launches for PlayStation 4|5, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S this Oct. 4.
