Fans of the Alan Wake franchise could be in for a wonderful surprise sometime soon. As VG247 reports, a game called Alan Wake Remastered — presumably an updated version of the author’s first adventure — has leaked out of the Epic Games Store database.
The release is currently present in said database with the title “HeronStaging.” This is likely an attempt to throw would-be snoopers off the scent. If you drill down into looking at where cloud saves are to be stored for the title, however, you can clearly see the name “AlanWakeRemastered” spelled out.
First released in 2010, Alan Wake is a game that, sadly, is really beginning to show its age where graphics are concerned. A remaster would give new players a reason to check out the first game in the Alan Wake universe, and would lean in nicely to a direct sequel, which VG247 mentions is rumored to be on the way as an Epic Games Store exclusive.
There’s no word yet on whether or not Alan Wake Remastered could also find life as a console title. The original game and a spin-off, Alan Wake’s American Nightmare, both released on Xbox 360 and are playable via backward compatibility on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. Just like the original, however, these games definitely look very dated when placed next to more modern games. An Alan Wake Remastered release on newer hardware would most certainly be welcome.
We’ll be keeping an eye on this to see if an official announcement comes from Remedy Entertainment, the developer behind the series. Should more information drop, we’ll let you know.
