It’s been three years since headlines were going around that a fourth BioShock game was in development, and we haven’t had any significant updates from Cloud Chamber or 2K Games since. Fans were expecting an update this year, but as word would have it, we might get a delay when it comes to the announcement.
As per @oopsleaks on Twitter (via GamingBolt), 2K is allegedly not happy with the development of BioShock 4, and this could lead to a delay in the announcement; even if that was the case, we should expect the game to release by the end of 2024 as originally planned. Here’s the report:
For now we should take this report with a grain of salt, but with prestige that the BioShock games have earned, you can bet that the pressure is on for a fourth game to be able to deliver when it comes to the lore and gameplay.
If anything, BioShock Infinite kind of feels like lightning in a bottle, with the story being a prequel and having almost nothing to do with the city of Rapture. If you ask me, the next BioShock should take a leaf out of Infinite’s playbook, in that it looked only at the core elements of the original BioShock game (especially the philosophy and story), and built around that. We don’t need to return to Rapture or Columbia, but there should be a hidden city built around another philosophy, and we should be able to mix and match powers along with weapons.
Like I said, there’s a lot of pressure for this sequel after Infinite, but if they manage to pull it off, that would be phenomenal.
The next BioShock title is expected to come out sometime in 2024.
