If you’re struggling to defeat the Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong, here are some tips to help you beat the optional boss early in the game.

Black Myth: Wukong: How to Beat Wandering Wight

While Black Myth: Wukong offers an epic gameplay experience, it can get pretty tough, especially on your first playthrough. You’ll face several challenging bosses along the way, and one that tends to give players a hard time is the Wandering Wight, located in the Forest of Wolves near the Keeper’s Shrine.

Since you’re likely still getting the hang of the game mechanics, it’s normal to struggle with some of the tougher bosses. To help you out, we’ve compiled a few quick tips on preparing for the fight and ultimately taking down the Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong.

Tips to Prepare for the Wandering Wight Fight in Black Myth: Wukong

Fight Wandering Wight in Black Myth Wukong

The Wandering Wight is one of the optional bosses you’ll encounter in the early chapters of Black Myth: Wukong. While it’s not impossible to defeat him on your first try, it’s smarter to bypass the fight and come back later after leveling up your character to increase your chances of winning.

The optional boss has a lethal moveset that can end you in just a few hits. By skipping the fight on the first approach and exploring the surrounding areas, you can level up, boosting your damage resistance and abilities. Here are some key tips to get you prepared for a fight with the Wandering Wight:

  • Farm Wills to level up and earn Spark: You can earn more Wills by clearing out enemies in the Forest of Wolves, which levels you up in the game. This way, you gain Sparks that you can use to buy or upgrade abilities (such as Stamina) and spells in the “Self Advance” tab.
  • Upgrade the Immobilize Spell: You can use the Immobilize spell to freeze the Wandering Wight, giving you a chance to land heavy attacks on him while he stays still. However, make sure to upgrade the spell to maximize its effectiveness in the fight against the Wandering Wight.
  • Unlock a Transformation Spell: Another item that can boost your chances against the Wandering Wight is the Red Tides Transformation Spell. You can unlock this spell by defeating Guangzhi, another optional boss found in the Forest of Wolves near the Keeper’s Shrine. The spell lets you transform into Guangzhi for a few seconds, shielding your health from damage and using his moveset to attack the Wandering Wight.

With these abilities and spells in your arsenal, you can return to fight the Wandering Wight and stand a chance at defeating him

Note: If you plan to bypass the Wandering Wight to level up your character and return later to defeat it, ensure you return before ringing the three bells that teleport you to the Secret Area. Otherwise, the Wandering Wight will disappear, and you won’t be able to get his spirit.

How to Defeat the Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong

Defeating the Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong requires you to have enough spells and abilities and understand its moves to time your counterattacks. Here are some of his moves you should be aware of:

  • Kamehameha Energy Attack: The Wight begins this attack with sweeping hand motions before delivering a powerful energy blast. Watch for the hand movements and be ready to dodge and counterattack effectively.
  • Ground Rock Attack: When you see him raise his hand, he’s about to slam the ground and create waves of rock attacks that cover multiple areas. This move is usually predictable, so stay alert to avoid its damage.
  • Clapping Hands (AOE Attack): The Wight claps his hands to unleash an area-of-effect attack, often starting with a step back and sprint. Prepare to dodge as he initiates this attack.

Normal attacks, like stomping the ground or sweeping his hand, are easier to dodge. Just stay vigilant to avoid unnecessary damage.

Your Strategy

The key to defeating the Wandering Wight is to dodge his attacks and find the best moments to strike. You should start the fight by approaching him from behind (walk, don’t sprint) and deliver a light attack combo to catch him off guard. Follow up with a focus-powered heavy combo attack to stun him, then spam him with light attack combos again for significant damage.

In the early stage of the fight, use the Red Tides Transformation Spell to transform to Guangzhi and then deliver heavy attacks to set the Wandering Wight on fire.

Plus, in between the attacks, avoid sprinting and simply walk to him to replenish your stamina. This is crucial to ensure you can deliver powerful attacks consistently. Besides, you can cast the Immobilize spell if you need a breather, but it’s best to use the spell when he is planning to attack you. The latter will give you the chance to rain focus-charged attacks or 3 light attack combos on him while he is frozen, rendering him stunned from performing his attack.

Immobilize the Wandering Wight

If you see him preparing to unleash any of his moves, like the energy blast or rock wave attack, and your Immobilize spell isn’t ready, move far away from him. This will help you dodge his attack and give you time to recharge the Immobilize spell. After that, approach him again by dodging his attacks and find a way to attack him again from behind.

You can also lure the Wandering Wight into charging into the stone pillars, which will stun him and cause him to fall to the ground; use this opportunity to spam him with attacks.

Defeat the Wandering Wight

Overall, your cue to ramp up your attacks is when he starts staggering. Also, focus on dodging and landing light attacks first to build up your Focus Points. Once you have enough FP, unleash a focus-charged combo attack for significant damage.

Conclusion

The key to defeating the Wandering Wight in Black Myth: Wukong is knowing when to keep your distance and when to close in for some heavy hits. After you defeat him, you’ll receive his spirit, which can be used for transformation later in the game. However, you won’t be able to use it until you meet the Ancient Master in the Bamboo Grove and upgrade your Gourd.
