About
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is a first-person shooter centering around a battle for the solar system.
The game was the first developed by Infinity Ward under the new three-year development cycle, and is the thirteenth instalment in the Call of Duty series. Work began on the title in 2014, over two years before its launch, and a total of 1.8 million copies were sold in the first week alone. This was, however, 50% less than the figures achieved by Black Ops III, with the deficit accredited to the latter’s pre-established branding. Activision later admitted in February 2017 that it had continued to miss its sales targets, citing that the game “didn’t resonate with fans.”
A Special Edition was released alongside the standard one, which included a remastered version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, originally titled Modern Warfare Remastered. This again proved a negative to fans who in addition to disliking the direction that the game had taken, also aired disapproval at the fact the Modern Warfare Remastered was not available to purchase separately, forcing them to purchase the Special Edition at an inflated cost. At the time of writing, this is still the case.

Story
Infinite Warfare is set in the future, at a time when the earth has run out of its natural goodies due to over population and industrial expansion. Fearing for the future’s future, the nations of the world collaboratively form the United Nations Space Alliance (UNSA) tasked with dealing with everything related to human space colonisation.
Those left on this dwindling planet are reliant on the miners posted in space who harvest asteroids and planets for much-needed resources. But these valuable out-posts attract a deadly enemy, keen on claiming control. The UNSA is protected by the Solar Associated Treaty Organization (SATO), but prior to the game, insurgents broke away from the organisation and formed the Settlement Defense Front (SDF). This faction launched a surprise attack on Geneva, weakening the strength of SATO on earth.
Commander Nick Reyes must lead a team against the baddies, both on earth and in space, to ensure that they do not take control of the universe. The world is very much in your hands.
Gameplay
The introduction of a new setting brought about a change in gameplay mechanics and load outs, zero-gravity environments and boost packs respectively. As it is set beyond the bounds of our war-charged planet, players can expect to visit a selection of intergalactic tourist spots (planets, satellites, asteroids), whilst also taking to the Jackal, a transformative fighter, to engage in a spot of aerial combat.
Two new difficulty levels were introduced: Specialist, which forbids health regeneration without Nano Shots and allows weapons to be shot out of the player’s hands, and #YOLO that sends the dead back to the beginning of the game and not to the last checkpoint as is the norm.
The central hub takes the form of the Retribution, from which players can start missions, check progression and undertake crucial upgrades to their kit.
