The Witcher III essentially put CD Projekt Red in the mainstream radar, and though Cyberpunk may have been a stumble, the studio is set to go back to ol’ reliable.
As per a recent announcement, three Witcher games are actually in the works, and they have been dubbed Project Sirius, Project Polaris, and Project Canis Majoris. Check this out:
While Polaris and Canis Majoris have both been described as ‘story-driven open-world RPGs’, only Polaris will be worked on by CD Projekt Red, and it’s also being described as a new trilogy of games; Canis Majoris is said to be developed by a third party studio led by vets who used to work on Witcher.
As for Sirius, it’s only been described as an ‘innovative take on the Witcher universe’ and will be developed by The Molasses Flood with the support of CDPR.
With everyone singing their praises for The Witcher III so much that it’s become a meme, there are certainly fans who are excited to see the studio’s next-gen entry into the Witcher franchise. Though one game would have probably made fans happy enough, the fact that three are currently being worked on kind of feels like the studio is doubling down on the franchise that made them such a huge hit.
With all these Witcher projects, CDPR does have plans in store for other titles. A new IP dubbed Project Hadar has been announced by the studio, and there are plans to expand on Cyberpunk 2077 from a DLC expansion to an upcoming sequel.
Hopefully we get more reveals before the year ends.
