Square Enix’s Forspoken was supposed to release last year, but after a delay, we’re now expecting the game to launch later in the month. The release is a few weeks away, and PlayStation has dropped a new cinematic trailer that teases this Isekai story.
Check this out:
The teaser basically showcases most of the things we can expect from the game, with Frey’s magical powers and the fantasy creatures that she’ll be going up against. While it’s only a little chunk of the preview, we also get a hint at her traversal abilities—which will be a huge chunk of the gameplay when it comes to exploring the world of Athia.
I guess the scenes in New York are also a short way to say that Frey is in her own Isekai story, being thrust into a fantasy world despite growing up in the modern one. The game has confirmed we’ll be getting some levels where Frey is walking around New York, but it’s said to be a trick of one of the Tantas—the main villains of the game.
So far, I think the game looks pretty solid, and Frey has potential to be one of the new game protagonists of the current-gen of consoles. Let’s hope she doesn’t disappoint.
Here’s the official description for Forspoken:
Join Frey Holland as she is mysteriously transported from New York City to the beautiful yet cruel landscapes of Athia. In her journey to find a way home she must look within to overcome the battles against twisted Breakbeasts and the treacherous Tantas.
Forspoken launches for PlayStation 5 and PC on Jan. 24.
