More shmups are always welcome at Pure PlayStation. Our Jeremy has something of a soft spot for the genre, but that’s because he’s an old man still stuck in his ways. Rumour has it he even tries to put quarters into his PS4 every now and again as he regresses back to his childhood in the arcades.
Indie Polish outfit Korgorus is releasing a new shmup in 2020, and it’ll be published by Ultimate Games S.A. Yep, I’ve never heard of them either, but maybe Dark Gravity will be the game that makes their names? Maybe.
The game has promise, and from the first trailer released today, it’s a very aesthetically appealing game. It’s a single-player shmup shooter with a focus on a non-linear campaign mode, lots of enemies and bosses, and tough-as-nails gameplay. Oh, and it looks fantastic with its low-poly art style. Very chic.
“The project alludes to classic Japanese shooters from years ago. Among the inspiration behind Dark Gravity are, e.g. Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun and Zero Gunner. Of course, there are here unique features that will make this title stand out from other productions. It is not only about stylized low poly graphics but an intriguing story and the large possibilities of crafting and expanding the fighter jets” says the originator of the game and founder of Korgorus studio, Rafał Szewczyk.
As Rafał Szewczyk announces, Dark Gravity will offer high-speed and intense fun, full of shooting and destruction, but also collecting resources and expanding the fighter jet. In total, players will find in Dark Gravity 17 highly-diversified missions, 34 bosses, 8 fighter jets and a whole lot of additional elements.
“The difficulty level will be very important – the game at the highest level will be significantly different from the normal level. The higher the level, the more the challenges, new enemies, new bosses and additional secrets. Importantly, there are also big differences concerning the fighter jets. Each of them will have its own unique character and the weaponry can be adapted to your own preferences. All this will additionally increase the life of Dark Gravity” adds Rafał Szewczyk.
The main features of Dark Gravity:
-
Quick and intense gameplay;
-
Nonlinear campaign, intriguing history;
-
Stylish, low poly graphics;
-
3 different difficulty levels;
-
Crafting and expansion of fighter jets;
-
34 bosses;
-
An additional mode of survival.
Dark Gravity is set to release in late 2020 on PC initially, with a Nintendo Switch release also planned. There’s no mention of PS4 or PS5 specifically, but the press release does say that it may also appear on other consoles. Given the late 2020 release date, it’s fair to assume the developers would want to have their new game running on the newest hardware available, so PS5 and Xbox Series X.
