One of the more unique titles launching this year is Stray which puts you into the shoes (or rather paws) of a cyberpunk cat. The game has just recently launched, and critics are already singing their praises.

What’s curious is, a lot of praise for the game doesn’t come with the actual story, but with the subtle ways players are allowed to interact with the environment as a cat. You can nuzzle other animals and ‘people’, plus you can also go around knocking things off of ledges—anything a typical cat can do.

Though some players have had fun with the option to pet animals in other games like Ghost of Tushima, it feels like BlueTwelve Studio has really honed into something else when they decided to wanted to make a video game about a cat. Sure there’s an entire story about the world, and you have missions where you have to fight off enemies, but a lot of praise seems to be coming from the more mundane elements of the game—which is pretty interesting for an indie title.

Let’s hope that Stray manages to succeed well enough to deliver a sequel that will allow even more cat life emotion.

Lost, alone, and separated from family, a stray cat must untangle an ancient mystery to escape a long-forgotten cybercity and find the way home.

Stray is now available for PC and PlayStation 4|5.
