The future of PlayStation is looking bright.
PlayStation Showcase was well worth the wait with a non-stop exhibition of new and exciting titles for PS4 and PS5.
I always think the key to a successful conference or showcase is to let the games do the talking. Sony and PlayStation have always excelled at this, their newest showcase is no different and is one of their strongest events to date. If you’re a Marvel fan, PlayStation really is the place to be it seems. In case you missed it here are all of the announcements from PlayStation Showcase.
Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic Remake
It’s happening. Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic Remake is coming to PS5. The remake of KOTOR is being developed by Aspyr who have previously handled remasters of Jedi Outcast 2 and Star Wars Episode 1 – Racer. This is a big undertaking for any studio, and it remains to be seen what direction the remake goes in.
Project Eve
We got our first real look at gameplay from Project Eve, originally announced in 2019, but much of this game is still a mystery. There’s no release date as of yet but there’s plenty of hack n’ slash action on display here and even some Eldritch horror. If you’re into that kind of thing.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands
The Borderlands spin-off is coming to PS4 and PS5 on March 25th, 2022. Borderlands’ take on the fantasy genre is as about as insane as you would expect, and that’s a good thing.
Forspoken
Forspoken has been teased extensively by Square Enix for a while now. The newest trailer offers our first real look at the story and gameplay as Frey Holland is transported from New York to the mythical land of Athia. Forspoken is expected to launch in Spring 2022 on PlayStation 5.
Alan Wake Remastered
Alan Wake is finally coming to PlayStation. The remaster of Remedy’s beloved action thriller will contain the main game and its two expansions, fully remastered in 4K.
Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online
Another look at the PS5 version of Grand Theft Auto V, which has been delayed to March 2022, if anyone’s interested. I don’t think anyone is, to be honest. Where’s that damn remastered trilogy, Rockstar?
Ghostwire: Tokyo
Ghostwire: Tokyo is the latest title from Tango Gameworks and Shinji Mikami, the mastermind behind Resident Evil. This may well be the last original Bethesda title for PlayStation and is expected to launch in Spring next year.
Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy
A new story trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy pits The Guardians against The Church of Truth and shows off a very good boy. Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy is still on track for release on October 26th 2021.
Bloodhunt
A new battle royale set in the world of Vampire: The Masquerade. Bloodhunt is free to play and is coming to PS5 later this year.
Deathloop
It’s a given at this point that Deathloop will have some kind of presence at PlayStation events. The new story trailer follows Colt as he attempts to uncover the mystery of the eight Visionaries while being thwarted every step of the way by Julianna. Deathloop is launching on September 14th, 2021, exclusively for PS5.
Kid A Mnesia Exhibition
I don’t think anyone predicted Radiohead teaming up with PlayStation. I also don’t really know what this is supposed to be. Is it a game? Or is it more of an interactive experience? Kid A Mnesia is scheduled for release in November so I’m sure we’ll have more details closer to the time.
Tchia
Tchia is a cute game from Awaceb that allows you to explore a vibrant island. Players will be able to glide, swim, climb or sail to get around. You can even do some body-swapping with the local wildlife or just chill and play your ukelele.
Rainbow Six Extraction
The new story trailer for Rainbox Six Extraction pits team Rainbow against a deadly alien threat. Rainbow Six Extraction is on track for a January 2022 release date following a significant delay.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Arguably the biggest surprise of the night. I had and still have so many questions about Marvel’s Wolverine. Is it a stand-alone title? Is Insomniac building their own shared universe of Marvel Characters? What does this mean for Spider-Man 2?
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Well, Spider-Man 2 is still happening but we’ll have a bit of a wait. The reveal trailer shows Peter and Miles take down bad guys in style while Kraven the Hunter delivers a villainous monologue. Kraven is a worthy adversary, but the real threat is one of Spidey’s most well-known and dangerous foes.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection remasters Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy for PS5 and PC, and will launch early next year.
Gran Turismo 7
The next installment in the Gran Turismo series shows off new tracks, cars, and customisation features. Gran Turismo 7 is expected to release March 4th, 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
God of War: Ragnarok
PlayStation Showcase ended in a big way with a new trailer for God of War: Ragnarok which continues the story of Kratos and Atreus as they try to prevent Ragnarok.
