Fallout 4 GOTY Out Today, Just a Standard Disc With Download Code

Fallout 4 finally got its Game of the Year Edition today but annoyingly it’s not that special. Whereas GOTY releases usually come with all updates and downloads pre-installed on the disc (The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne, to name but two), Bethesda’s toddler is nothing but a normal disc, packaged in a box with new artwork, and kept company by a voucher code for downloading the DLC.
Which begs the question, what were they thinking? This means there is no benefit, unless you forked out for the Pip-Boy, to buy this compared to the original release and Season Pass. Fine, you may save a few pennies (not necessarily if you shop around and pick up the game second-hand), but the gamers who bought it over two years ago, are likely to have already purchased the pass and thus enjoyed Nuka World and its downloadable compatriots.
So who does that leave? New players who are yet to set foot in the Wasteland? Those who missed out on a Pip-Boy Special last time around? Fair enough, because that’s where the money is.
But how about those without the adequate internet connection to download the extra content, who were waiting for this release to solve the problem? And who pre-ordered thinking just that before cracking open the case to find the opposite of Charlie Bucket’s Golden Ticket? Looks like they’re stuck with the game in all its let down, unless they can update it and download the extras through some miracle, sell it on to someone who can do something with it or convince a retailer to refund their return. Great…
People are already venting their disappointments as low-scored reviews on popular online stores, the majority of whom are quick to point out the lack of any mention of the voucher in the title’s marketing drive. Sure, it may be on the back of the box, but we only see the cover when we click buy. At the time of writing, the description on Amazon UK does not mention the code, and the box contents only lists the Blu-ray disc, further confounding the issue.
It reads:

Fallout 4 GOTY Out Today, Just a Standard Disc With Download Code

With all the latest gameplay updates, graphical enhancements, the ability to play Mods for free on PC and consoles, plus all official add-ons included, this is the ultimate way to experience the award-winning post-nuclear adventure from Bethesda Game Studios.

Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition includes the fully updated original game along with all six add-ons: Automation, Wasteland Workshop, Far Harbour, Contraptions Workshop, Vault-Tec Workshop, and Nuka-World. KEY FEATURES: Freedom and Liberty!

We will have to wait and see if Bethesda make any comment.
