Since the tail end of 2018, the Epic Games Store has been dishing out free PC titles to anyone who’s willing to create an Epic account and download the company’s launcher. What’s stood out about the EGS collection compared to, say, other places that give away freebies, is just how high quality most of the drops have been. That trend looks like it’ll continue next week, as the latest entry in the lineup of free Epic Games has now been revealed. Those who drop by the EGS next Thursday can expect to pick up The Spectrum Retreat at no charge whatsoever.

As the game’s Steam description describes it, The Spectrum Retreat is “a challenging, first-person puzzle game set in the near future.” You’re a guest staying at The Penrose, and as you’ve probably guessed, not everything is what it seems in this place. “Your desire to unearth the truth” about the hotel, according to the description, “is obstructed by an array of colour coded puzzles, mind-bending physics challenges and the growing fear of exposing your true intentions.”

As someone who recently finished up Observation before it left Xbox Game Pass, this one sounds right up my alley. It has that air of being both heady and creepy. I will be there on July 1 when this one goes free — at least to check it out for a bit. Hopefully The Spectrum Retreat — which received some decent reviews, including several that praised its story — is worth the download, and worth of induction into the free Epic games Hall of Fame.

As reported last week, Horizon Chase Turbo and Sonic Mania are available right now. These two titles will stay up until July 1.
