It will be a while before the next Ghostbusters movie comes out, but fans get to play around with some spooky slimers in IllFonic’s new game, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.
The game has just recently launched for multiple platforms, and we have a new trailer that breaks down all of the game’s elements from gameplay to customization. Check this out:
The official description reads:
As a Ghostbuster, join with other Ghostbusters to chase and trap ghosts in museums, prisons, hotels, and more, and capture the ghosts before they can thoroughly haunt the areas.
Or, as the Ghost, hide, sneak, surprise, scare, and of course, slime Ghostbusters and civilians until everything has gone entirely spooky. Use trickery, deception, and Ectoplasm to gain the upper hand and drive the Ghostbusters out.
With IllFonic having worked on the Friday the 13th game, they’ve pretty much added the same formula to Spirits Unleashed, but since this is Ghostbusters, we should expect to be covered in slime rather than human blood and entrails.
Though I would have loved a story like the Ghostbusters game that came out in 2009, I think Spirits Unleashed is still a great chance to enjoy some ghostbustin’ while mixing and matching different gadgets to catch all kinds of demons.
Who knows, if this is a hit, maybe we could be looking at a Ghostbusters game with an actual story written in. In the meantime, the current iteration of Spirits Unleashed has a lot of potential to add characters and all kinds of ghosts for players to take on.
Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 4|5.
