Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! is an unassuming game with its colourful outward appearance, but hiding deep within is a chilling psychological horror game that’s well worth playing. However, the game can be confusing sometimes, even before you get down to the messy business of obtaining several of its multiple endings, so exactly how long it takes to beat Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! is not an easy question to answer.

Guide: How Long to Beat Doki Doki Literature Club Plus?

Hopefully, this little guide will give you a rough idea of what you might need to do to complete the game, so your aspiring plans of being on the book club honour list don’t get immediately shelved.

How long is the Main Story?

If you’re new to DDLC, your first run-through will take around 3-4 hours, depending on your reading ability, and each subsequent playthrough should take around 2-3 hours. However, from an enjoyment point of view, I would highly advise your first playthrough to go in blindly as the game will deliver many twists and turns. You will also need to achieve all the multiple endings to obtain the platinum trophy, so there’s no need to take your first run too seriously.

How long are the Side Stories?

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! has six linear side stories to explore that are broken into two parts. After all six side stories are completed, one last story will become available that concludes the sides stories.

These new tales are centred around the past, and there are no dialogue options for you to pick, as your character has not entered the fray. The side stories themselves can only become accessible when playing through the main game, and I highly recommend achieving the good ending in the main storyline first, as this is the fastest way to unlock all six parts.

How long is the Doki Doki Literature Club Plus! Platinum?

I have not achieved the platinum yet, although I’m only one trophy away. But, without a doubt, the trophy that will cause you the most trouble will be “Breakthrough”, which will require you to achieve 100% data collection. If you want to keep track of how much data you have acquired so far, go into the settings on the in-game computer desktop, and look at the right-hand side as it will display how much data you have collected.

Assuming you don’t skip the dialogue of your first run-through of the main story and the side stories, the platinum will take around 8-12 hours. Although, I could easily see this time being dramatically cut down as shortcuts are bound to be discovered.
