PS5 owners who have the digital edition – the version without a disc drive – are normally shafted when it comes to next-gen upgrades as their discs are no good. EA is doing players a solid with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.

Guide: How to Upgrade to the PS5 Version of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Even With a Discless Console

Today, EA and Respawn released a next-gen version of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s a completely free upgrade, too. But how do you get your hands on the PS5 version if you’re upgrading from PS4? What if you only have a PS4 disc copy of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but a PS5 without a disc drive? Read on and you shall learn the ways of… the upgrade. I can’t teach you the force, sadly.

How to upgrade to the PS5 version of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (Digital)

If you have the PS4 version of the game as a digital download, it’s really simple. All you need to do is go to the PlayStation Store, search for the game and then select the ‘Free PS5 Upgrade’. You’ll then ‘purchase’ the upgrade at no cost, and it will then download. Simple as pie and the easiest method of upgrading to the PS5 version of any game.

Upgrading the disc version of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order to the PS5 version is simple, too. All you need to do is insert the game’s disc into your PS5 console, then go to the PlayStation Store and find the game’s page. Then select ‘Free PS5 Upgrade’ and ‘purchase’ the upgrade – again, at no cost – and then you’ll have the digital version ready to download and install. Bear in mind, you will need to make sure you have the PS4 disc in your console every time you want to play – this validates your ownership of the game.

This way is a little more tricky but it’s great to have the option all the same. In most cases, if a game gets an upgrade and you’ve only got the disc version on PS4 but only have a PS5 without a disc drive, you get nothing. You have to buy the game again digitally to get the upgrade. That’s not the case with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. EA is offering players an upgrade, even if they’re on PS5 Digital Edition. Here’s how you can upgrade your PS5 disc to a digital code.

  • First, go to EA’s support site
  • Choose PS5 Digital Edition (or Xbox Series S if you’re looking to upgrade over there)
  • Then select the ‘Codes and promotions category’
  • Then select ‘Replace disc with code’
  • You’ll have a form to fill out – you’ll need your EA account details and proof of purchase to show that you currently own the game (a store receipt/email receipt)
  • Once your claim has been validated, you’ll get your download code and voila – you’ll have the next-gen version of the game!
