The Mountaintop is a Legendary Grenade Launcher in Destiny 2 that, frankly, may have been one of the reasons we got sunsetting. Imagine some of the nastiest Grenade Launchers in the game, and then imagine if all of those fired a straight shot directly at the object your reticle is covering — no gravity in play. That is the Mountaintop, and while it can no longer be infused for Power-enabled playlists and activities, it is still plenty viable everywhere else. You undoubtedly what to know how to get the Mountaintop in Destiny 2 at this point. So let’s tackle that question.
Mountaintop was once a competitive Crucible nightmare to obtain
Back in the day, the Mountaintop was not an easy weapon to get. It required completing a rather lengthy and challenging Quest, and that Quest included getting all sorts of Grenade Launcher kills in competitive Crucible (which was not easy to do). What happened then was what happened with so many of the premier guns in Destiny 2 a few years ago: the great players got better weapons and continued to dunk all over the average players. Weapons like the Mountaintop made Crucible very ugly.
Eventually, this monster of a Grenade Launcher fell victim to sunsetting and could no longer be infused up to max Power Level. After that, the Mountaintop Quest was removed from the game to pave the way for new weapons to take the spotlight. There is still a method for how to get the Mountaintop in Destiny 2, however. You will find the solution below.
The Mountaintop can be purchased in the Tower
In Destiny 2, the Monument to Lost Lights serves as a sort of collection-slash-graveyard. It houses Legendary and Exotic weapons that have seen their original content sources removed from the game for one reason or another. If a weapon came from a Quest, a Mission, a Raid or what have you — and that activity was removed — you will probably find that weapon in the Monument.
This is the place where you will find the Mountaintop, and getting it is as easy as buying it. You will need a particular set of currencies and resources prepped and ready to go. So here is what those are:
- 150,000 Glimmer
- 250 Legendary Shards
- Seven Enhancement Prisms
- Two Ascendant Shards
Once you have all of that ready, hop into the Monument and navigate to the section labeled, “Legacy Gear.” There you’ll find the Mountaintop sitting in the “Crucible Weapons” section in the fourth slot over from the left.
And that’s how to get The Mountaintop in Destiny 2
As I mentioned earlier, the Mountaintop is still very viable in activities where Power doesn’t matter — think Quickplay Cruicible playlists or past content drops where equipping that older weapon still keeps you above the activity’s Power Level. Outside of those, though, it’s tough to recommend riding with this one.
At the very least, you can toss it on for some harmless Crucible fun and get a sense for the devastation it caused just a few years ago.
