Whisper of the Worm is a unique weapon in Destiny 2, and that’s mostly due to the fact that it’s a holdover from the first game that’s undergone two different transformations. This Exotic Sniper Rifle first started as a Legendary called Black Hammer in the first Destiny. That game later reworked it as an Exotic called Black Spindle. If you’re wondering how to get Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2 — and why its name is different yet again — read on.

How to get Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2

Whisper of the Worm used to come from an amazing mission

Whisper of the Worm originally dropped as a reward from a secret Destiny 2 mission called “The Whisper.” That mission — no longer in the game now thanks to the Destiny Content Vault — remains one of my all-time favorites.

This speed run of “The Whisper” is downright bonkers.

The idea is that Whisper of the Worm is actually forged from the remains of the Worm god Xol, who players defeated in 2018’s Warmind expansion. Hence the name this time around, which didn’t take on the “Black _______” format of the previous two iterations of the weapon.

Now you can buy Whisper of the Worm pretty effortlessly

As for how to get Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2, you don’t have to go through the pain of completing “The Whisper” anymore. (Well, most of us felt pain. As you can see, the speedrunners above didn’t seem to have trouble with it.)

Monument to Lost Lights

All you have to do is visit the Monument to Lost Lights while first ensuring you have the following currencies and materials:

Once you have all of that, open the Monument to Lost Lights and visit the section called “Red War Exotics.” You’ll find Whisper of the Worm in the seventh slot.

And that’s how to get Whisper of the Worm in Destiny 2

There you go, folks! You should now be able to purchase Whisper of the Worm, and get your hands on it with not quite as much effort as it took previously. This weapon used to be much better once upon a time. One large nerf later, it isn’t quite the go-to boss melter it once was, but can still be handy on occasion.
