Fans may be waiting on the Dead Space remake next year, but Striking Distance Studios has something in store for the sci-fi horror shooter genre. The Callisto Protocol is set to launch in a few weeks, and we have a new launch trailer showing off the brutality that awaits you on Jupiter’s dead moon.

Launch Trailer for The Callisto Protocol Promises a Sci-Fi Horror Epic

Watch this:

It’s been a while since we’ve seen Josh Duhamel take on Transformers, and now we get to watch (or rather play) him taking on some mutated inmates that aren’t necromorphs. Fans of The Boys will also recognize Karen Fukuhara who could be another playable character or possibly the game’s NPC sidekick.

Though it’s not Dead Space, I think the clean slate of story allows for Callisto Protocol to come up with its own crazy narrative as to why prisoners are mutating into these horrifying creatures. I mean, they can have the aesthetic and gameplay down, but unless they have a good story, I don’t think Callisto will manage to surpass the Dead Space hype.

Set on Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto in the year 2320, The Callisto Protocol casts players as Jacob Lee – an inmate in Black Iron Prison. When a mysterious outbreak throws the moon into chaos, Jacob must face his darkest fears to defeat the bloodthirsty creatures that stalk him as he unravels the dark mysteries at the heart of the powerful United Jupiter Company.

The Callisto Protocol launches for PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4|5 on Dec. 2.
