How to Make the Best Luau Soup in Stardew Valley

The Luau is a special event celebrated on Summer 11 in Pelican Town. The community gathers around the Beach every year under the scorching sun to make a Potluck Soup. All the villagers are eligible to bring an item to make the soup taste great, but how the soup will turn out will ultimately hinge on the player’s ingredients.

The Tropical-themed festival usually begins at 9:00 AM. Head down to the beach before 2:00 PM if you do not want to miss this event. The community makes a huge effort to cook up the best-tasting soup to impress the Governor. The Governor visits the town each year to try out some of Pelican Town’s delicacies; the best one they can offer with confidence is the Potluck Soup.

Your objective here is to bring an item to enhance the soup’s flavor. Getting a very good reaction from the Governor will reward you with relationship points with the villagers. (Except for Sandy, the Wizard, Krobus, the Dwarf, and your Children.) You should avoid bringing an unappetizing ingredient, or you will hear an awful response from the Governor and lose some relationship points with the NPCs.

Luau Guvner

So below are the five responses you may get from the Governor, ranking from worst to best. We have also included the items you may bring to make the best Luau Potluck Soup.

The Worst Luau Soup in Stardew Valley

Luau Worst

The worst response you can get from the Governor is having him sip from a vile-tasting Potluck Soup. This soup is so terrible the Governor becomes ill and faints after tasting it. If you cause this to happen, you will lose 100 friendship points with all the NPCs in Pelican Town.

Avoid putting these items in the soup if you do not want to poison the Governor: Holly, Pufferfish, Red Mushroom, Sap, Scorpion Carp, Sea Cucumber, and Void Mayonnaise.

A Bad Luau Potluck Soup in Stardew Valley

Luau Bad

It is not as bad as putting the Governor in the hospital, but it is still a pretty terrible soup. You can lose 50 relationship points from getting a bad response from him.

Suppose you do not want the Governor to call your soup disgusting. In that case, you should steer clear of bringing these items: Anchovy, Blackberry, Carp, Crocus, Daffodil, Field Snack, Green Algae, Herring, Joja Cola, Qi Fruit, Qi Fruit Wine, Salmonberry, Seaweed, Spring Onion, Sunfish, Sweet Pea, Unmilled Rice, and White Algae.

An Average Potluck Soup

Luau Average

It’s a soup that is not terrible but not that good, just passable. You will not gain or lose friendship points from the NPCs upon hearing this response. But you can still get a much better reaction from the Governor than in the picture above.

These items will prompt a neutral response from the Governor: Apricot, Blue Jazz, Blueberry, Bream, Bug Steak, Cave Carrot, Chub, Common Mushroom, Corn, Dandelion, White or Brown Egg, Eggplant, Garlic, Ghostfish, Ginger, Green Bean, Hot Pepper, Leek, Parsnip, Perch, Rainbow Trout, Red Snapper, Sardine, Shad, Smallmouth Bass, Spice Berry, Sugar, Sunflower, Tomato, Tulip, Void Egg, Wheat Flour, and Wild Horseradish.

A Good Potluck Soup

Luau Good

The Governor will look pleased, and you will get commended for making a decent dish. You will earn 60 friendship points for putting something tasty in the Potluck Soup.

This is already a pretty good soup, so the quality of the items you need to put in the soup is essential. To get this kind of response from the Governor, it is best to bring gold or iridium quality of any of these items:

Albacore, Amaranth, Apple, Apricot Wine, Beet, Blackberry Wine, Blue Discus, Blueberry Wine, Bok Choy, Bullhead, Cactus Fruit, Cherry, Cranberries, Crystal Fruit, Dorado, Duck Egg, Eel, Fiddlehead Fern, Flounder, Grape, Halibut, Hazelnut, Hot Pepper Wine, Kale, White or Brown Large Egg, Largemouth Bass, Lingcod, Lionfish, Midnight Carp, Midnight Squid, Milk, Morel, Orange, Peach, Pike, Pomegranate, Poppy, Potato, Radish, Red Mullet, Salmon, Salmonberry Wine, Sandfish, Slimejack, Snow Yam, Spice Berry, Squid, Strawberry, Summer Spangle, Sunflower, Gold-quality Taro Root, Tiger Trout, Tilapia, Tuna, Void Salmon, Walleye, Wild Plum, Winter Root, and Woodskip

Luau Best

The villagers long to see a surprised yet extremely delighted reaction from the Governor. If you can bring out the best response from the Governor, you will receive 120 friendship points from all the NPCs.

Putting normal-quality items in the soup is out of the question if you want to get this kind of response. So you will have to bring the best items that you have stored away on your farm, such as  —

Silver-Quality Items: Ancient Fruit Wine, Apple Wine, Banana Wine, Blobfish, Coconut Wine, Crimsonfish, Crystal Fruit Wine, Goat Cheese, Golden Egg, Ice Pip, Large Goat Milk, Lava Eel, Legend, Legend II, Magma Cap, Mango Wine, Melon Wine, Orange Wine, Ostrich Egg, Pale Ale, Peach Wine, Pineapple Wine, Pomegranate Wine, Rhubarb Wine, Son of Crimsonfish, Starfruit, Starfruit Wine, Strawberry Wine, and the Traveling Cart’s Wine.

Gold and Iridium-Quality Items: Angler, Artichoke, Banana, Beer, Cactus Fruit Wine, Catfish, Cauliflower, Chanterelle, Cheese, Cherry Wine, Cranberries Wine, Fairy Rose, Glacierfish, Glacierfish Jr., Goat Milk, Grape Wine, Large Milk, Mango, Mead, Melon, Ms. Angler, Mutant Carp, Pineapple, Purple Mushroom, Radioactive Carp, Red Cabbage, Spice Berry Wine, Spook Fish, Stingray, Sturgeon, Super Cucumber, Iridium Quality Taro Root, Truffle, Wild Plum Wine, and Yam.

Aside from these responses, you can watch a scene where the Governor remarks that something is missing in the soup. You may also witness one other reaction if you feel a little mischievous.

The Potluck Soup is Missing Something

Luau MissingSomething2

You will receive a comment like this if you attended the Luau but failed to put any item in the soup. Getting this response will earn you no friendship points, but you will not lose any.

The Potluck Soup Tastes Tangy

The Governor will take his first sip from the soup. At first, he will praise it, but then he will notice something peculiar floating in the soup.

Luau PurpleShorts2

One of the best pranks you can pull on Mayor Lewis is putting his Lucky Purple Shorts in the Luau Soup. You will only get a funny reaction from the Governor and Mayor Lewis himself, but you will not gain nor lose any friendship points from the villagers.
