With Hideo Kojima being the driving force behind the Metal Gear games, the franchise has been awfully quiet since he went off to start Kojima Productions. With Konami making the huge Silent Hill announcements recently, it looks like the studio could be teasing a return for Metal Hear as well.
This was confirmed by Raiden voice actor Quinton Flynn who says we could be getting an announcement in the coming weeks. Here’s his post:
We don’t have any details on what kind of announcement could be coming, but a sequel to Metal Gear Rising definitely does sound like the next step in the franchise.
Than again, PushSquare is also suggesting that we could get a remake for the first Metal Gear Rising; the original game came out back in 2013, and with The Last of Us Part I also coming out the same year, maybe MGR could be the next game getting primed for new-gen consoles? When else is the perfect time to make an announcement if not during the game’s 10-year Anniversary?
Admittedly, Konami has been very quiet with their big franchises the past few years, but I think the studio has been biding time to start development on Silent Hill and Metal Gear. Now with enough work done, we’re getting all this big teasers. Let’s just hope the studio manages to have some solid entries in these iconic franchises planned for the next few years.
The next Metal Gear game has not been officially announced.
