With Street Fighter and Tekken gearing up for their next mainline entries, it looks like one other classic fighting game franchise is also going to upgrade for the new-gen.
In a recent earnings call with WB (via @Aluminum54), it has been confirmed that Mortal Kombat 12 is in development and is aiming for a release later this year. Check this out:
With four years between the release of MK 10 and MK 11, it would make sense for MK 12 to come out this year. Probably the only concern is that we’ve yet to see any marketing or announcements for the game, and we usually get a look a year before the release. If MK 12 was supposed to come out in 2023, I think we should have gotten an announcement by 2022 so that fans can gradually build up the hype.
We don’t know what Mortal Kombat 12 could look like, but we should expect a lot of returning classic characters as well as some new ones. While it’s always great to get new in-universe characters, the MK franchise has always been able to bring over faces from other WB-owned franchises like with MK11’s Terminator, John Rambo, Joker, and Robocop.
I’m just here hoping we can get a simplified version of customization. It would also be great if we got character skins based on the new MK movies. And speaking of MK movies, how about a playable Cole Young?
Mortal Kombat 12 has not been officially announced.
