Studio MDHR released Cuphead in 2017, and the 2D side-scroller based on old-timey cartoons was a hit with gamers. Now five years later, Netflix has offered us a first look at the animated The Cuphead Show!.

Netflix Drops First Trailer for The Cuphead Show!

Check it out:

Based on the award-winning video game, THE CUPHEAD SHOW! follows the unique misadventures of loveable, impulsive scamp Cuphead and his cautious but easily swayed brother Mugman.

With the original Cuphead game staying very true to the feel of old cartoons, it looks like the series will do the same and then some. While the world and characters look like they came right out of the 30s, the humor is a bit more modern. We should also expect a different story with the series, but with the base premise of Cuphead and Mugman making a deal with the devil still intact.

The game has also been applauded for its ragtime-inspired music, and it would be great if the show could use some of the musical cues from the original soundtrack. Why fix what is not broken?

While cartoons have come a long way now, we see some renewed interest in the classics, with shows like Over the Garden Wall and even anime like the ones from director Masaaki Yuasa. With Netflix’s Arcane bringing a renewed interest to League of Legends, we should expect The Cuphead Show! To do the same for the original game.

The Cuphead Show! premieres on Netflix on Feb. 18. Cuphead is now playable for PC, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PS4.
