Before going on to start his own video game studio, Hideo Kojima was set to direct his own Silent Hills game for Konami. The game had been cancelled back in 2015, but it’s possible that the studio could want to give us a look at a return to their hit horror franchise.
According to VGC’s Andy Robinson, we should be gearing up for some kind of reveal soon. Here’s his post:
This actually follows an announcement from Robinson that says that Konami’s Tokyo Game Show 2022 panel will only feature a smaller game. But now fans think that the Silent Hills reveal could very much come at the TGS.
Despite being a horror franchise as big as Resident Evil, we haven’t gotten a Silent Hill game since 2012. We don’t know exactly the reason why Konami has been holding back on the title, but it could have something to do with Hideo Kojima’s exit. Kojima was said to have been working on his Silent Hills game before it got cancelled in 2015; he even managed to collaborate with director Guillermo del Toro for it—which is kind of why we get to see del Toro in Death Stranding.
The again, these are just rumors for now. It’s entirely possible that Konami could reveal something else entirely, but Silent Hill has just been dormant for so long, a reveal before Halloween could be the perfect window to tease a horror game.
The Tokyo Game Show 2022 takes place from Sept. 15–18.
