Games of chance have been frowned upon in games, especially with the concept of loot boxes, but Nintendo seems to have a more player-friendly version with these gacha machines from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Nintendo Teases Gacha Machines in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Here’s a recent post teasing the big gacha machines in the game with the caption, “I found a mysterious structure on Sky Island. It looks like a spherical object is stuck inside…”

According to NintendoLife, these gacha machines can be found all over the game but don’t contain any highly valued weapons or prizes. Instead, they contain all kinds of devices and machines that players can use to build whatever contraption they need; most importantly, you can store these things in your inventory, just in case you need them on the spot.

With crafting being such a huge game component, a machine that allows you to mix and match items seems like a fun game mechanic. While I can imagine players would prefer a shop that allows them to get exactly what they want, I think it’s fun just to get random items and somehow make do with what the game gods give you to deal with.

An epic adventure awaits in the Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game, only on the Nintendo Switch system.

In this sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game, you’ll decide your path through the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule and the mysterious islands floating in the vast skies above. Can you harness the power of Link’s new abilities to fight against the malevolent forces threatening the kingdom?

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom officially launches for the Nintendo Switch on May 12.
