If you’re as addicted to all things Japanese as our reviewer, Dom O’Leary, you may have seen our recent coverage of the upcoming Grand Strategy title based on ‘Sengoku Era’ Japan; Nobunaga’s Ambition: Sphere Of Influence -Ascension. Today Koei Tecmo have seen fit to unveil more details of the city and empire building aspect of the game. What’s there seems pretty deep, especially considering this is only one of the main mechanics – the game will also feature tactical strategic battles and a political system. Satisfy your ambitions by reading our breakdown of the full details below.
Grand Strategy games generally offer an experience whose depth is difficult to rival and Koei Tecmo’s upcoming title Nonbunaga’s Ambition (shortened for convenience) looks set to continue that trend. We already know that players will be rising through the ranks of Lordship in the game’s campaign and, according to details released today, this will allow aspiring civic engineers to create settlements all their own, once they have the necessary authority.
Players will gain greater control of their domain as they progress, and this will allow them in turn to make more changes to their surroundings. There are three distinct ‘types’ of structure to be built; production, dedicated, and military, and it will be up to players to determine how they balance their construction strategy. Will you build a mighty military stronghold, a wealthy merchant town, or will you focus on keeping your populous happy and well fed?
Land will also play an important factor in these decisions, it seems, players will start off with a limited amount of space and building in suitable locations will be key to a successful strategy. We will also be able to clear new land, and even modify the terrain in certain ways – the developer gives the example here of creating irrigation to allow rice paddies to be built.
It certainly sounds like players will have a lot to think about on the game’s October 25th release date, it just remains to be seen whether the other aspects of the game will compliment the depth on offer here. We hope to have more information on the Combat and Diplomacy options for you as we get closer to the release date. There were also some screens released with today’s news, which you can see below;
