Supermassive Games has just come from June’s release of The Quarry, but another bigger studio is ready to go all-in on the developer.
As officially announced on their website, Supermassive has been fully acquired by Copenhagen-based studio Nordisk Games. They join a portfolio that includes Avalanche Studios, Star Sable Entertainment, Nitro Games, Flashbulb Games, and MercurySteam.
Supermassive’s Pete Samuels had this to say about the merger:
“It’s been a little over a year since Nordisk Games made an initial investment in Supermassive Games and our vision for the future. During that time, we have found that we share a lot of important values with [Nordisk CEO Mikkel Weider] and his team, and we believe these values to be equally important to our existing commercial partners who we will continue to support. Having had such a positive experience over the past year it wasn’t a difficult decision when Nordisk Games wanted to explore increasing their investment. We have an exciting and ambitious growth strategy for Supermassive Games and Nordisk Games ownership only enhances that. I’m hugely excited about where the security offered by this partnership, and continued access to the expertise within Nordisk Games, will take us next.”
We don’t know what’s next in store for Supermassive, but we can bet that the studio will be leaning in on the ‘cinematic’ choice-based horror games. They upped the bar when it came to their release of The Quarry, and with the support of Nordisk, maybe their next title could go even further.
Supermassive’s The Quarry is now available for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, and PC.
