The end of the month marks the launch of Bayonetta 3 for the Nintendo Switch, and though a lot of fans are excited for the release, they may not like what original Bayonetta voice actress Hellena Taylor has to say.
In a recent post on Twitter, Taylor reveals why she didn’t return to voice Bayonetta for the third game. Watch this:
As it turns out, despite the game’s success, Taylor was only offered 4000 USD to work on the game, to which she thought was surprisingly low for a franchise that makes so much money. “I didn’t want the world. I didn’t ask for too much. I was just asking for a decent, dignified, living wage. What they did was legal, as it was immoral.”
For now, Taylor is asking fans to boycott the game, and is urging them to spend the money they would on the game on the charity of their choice. We don’t know what kind of compromise Taylor wants to meet with the developers, but she does feel justified in asking for more than what they offered her. After all, she has been voicing the character since 2009; so I think she deserves a lot more when it comes to her contribution to the franchise.
For now, Taylor is getting a lot of support online, from fans and fellow artists, but we’ll have to wait until launch to see if her call to boycott the game was effective in any way.
Bayonetta 3 launches for the Nintendo Switch on Oct. 28.
