With October fast approaching , the pressure is on for the release of the Overwatch sequel. The game had already lost original director Jeff Kaplan, and now news has it that OW 2 has lost its lead character designer.
According to PC Gamer, Geoff Goodman, lead hero designer for Overwatch, has decided to leave Blizzard. Goodman apparently came to the decision earlier this year, and the studio has released a statement:
“We thank Geoff for his many years of service at Blizzard and wish him all the best. His ability to bring to life Overwatch’s diverse hero roster through gameplay has been incredible, and the mark he’s left on the Warcraft and Overwatch teams will be felt for years to come.”
No specific reason has been stated as to why Goodman chose to retire, but the decision does come after the studio was just coming off a scandal where it was revealed that several higher-ups in the studio have been accused of gross sexual misconduct. Fans can’t help but think that Goodman’s decision could be connected to that.
If anything, the fact that Goodman waited until the launch of the game to make the announcement could mean that he still had some kind of hand to the release version of Overwatch 2. During his run at Overwatch, Goodman was said to have made major rewors for heroes like Doomfist, plus new characters like Sojourn, Junker Queen, and Kiriko.
Things are looking grim behind the scenes for Overwatch 2, but some fans are hopeful the game will have a successful launch this October 4. Overwatch 2 will be available for PlayStation 4|5, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
