We know that Avatar Studios is working on a theatrically released Avatar: The Last Airbender movie, but it could be years before we get the first look. What we didn’t know was that there is an ATLA video game, and it could come out later this year.

Quest for Balance: Breath of the Wild-Inspired Avatar Game Allegedly in Development

According to Avatar News, Paramount, Game Mill, and Avatar Studios are working on  a console RPG called Avatar The Last Airbender: Quest for Balance, which is visually inspired by the hit The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The game will apparently take place after the events of Last Airbender, and will have the older members of the White Lotus recalling the events of the Hundred Year War. Here’s what the site writes:

The framing story of the game is that, set after the end of the animated series, members of the Order of the White Lotus have gotten together for a game of Pai Sho, and start telling old war stories to each other. They tell the events of the end of the Hundred Year War– the events of the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series, with Pakku covering Book One: Water, Bumi covering Book Two: Earth, and Iroh covering Book Three: Fire.

While Aang is expected to be the only playable character in the game, it’s said that there could be other options, but it wasn’t clearly shown. We should also expect some changes in the story, seeing that these old men’s memories aren’t really that sharp in their age. The site continues:

You as the player play through these stories from the start to the end of ATLA. However, their memories aren’t foolproof, so you end up playing through alternate histories different from what happened in the show. It’s kind of like Avatar’s What If…? Some of these are more serious while some are more humorous.

Until we get an official announcement, we should take this news with a grain of salt, but the Avatar franchise just has so much potential for exploration that an RPG is definitely on brand. Hopefully we get some kind of trailer soon.

An Avatar game has not been officially announced, but it is said to be eyeing a release on Nov. 8 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4|5, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
