Final Fantasy VII may be getting all the attention the past few weeks, but next year will the see the launch of the next mainline Final Fantasy game.
Final Fantasy XVI is set to come out next year, and we have a new trailer that shows off the medieval fantasy setting. Watch this:
Here’s the description for the game:
An epic dark fantasy world where the fate of the land is decided by the mighty Eikons and the Dominants who wield them.
This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the dominant of the Phoenix. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.
If you’re new to the Final Fantasy series, each mainline entry is essentially a story that can stand on its own, and we’re introduced to a new world, with new characters and its own original story. There are just some common elements between games like the fantasy creatures, magical abilities, and giant weapons.
We don’t know how popular this new iteration of Final Fantasy will be yet, but after the story of Noctis with Final Fantasy XV, I’m interested to see how Square Enix will up the ante for this incoming title in the mainline series.
Final Fantasy XVI launches for the PlayStation 5 on June 22, 2023.
