Scavengers is the all-new third-person PVE/PVP shooter that just hit Early Access on Steam. While the reviews might be a little mixed about the game itself, there is no getting around it, this game is competitive. But a lot of players get frustrated when they’re greeted with a fatal error, a crash, black screen, or even a connection error. Today, we will show you how to fix each one!
Fix Fatal Errors, Crashes, Black Screens & Connection Errors – Scavengers
First off, start off by checking whether you have the latest graphics card drivers installed on your machine. Right-click the Start button, go to Device Manager, find, and open the Display Adapters dropdown. From there, right-click your GPU, and then Update Driver > Automatically Search for Drivers.
Then, open the Start menu and search for ‘Windows Update’. There, simply click on the ‘Check for updates’ button, and your PC will update itself if necessary.
Other than that, try the other fixes in the list below as well, if you have some crashes, black screens, connections issues, or similar, in Scavengers.
Run As Administrator
This is a simple one, and yet many forget that these errors might occur because they’re not running the game with administrative privileges.
Find the shortcut to Scavengers and right-click it. Go to Properties, and then navigate to the Compatibility tab. From there, select ‘Disable Fullscreen Optimizations’ and ‘Run this program as an administrator’. Hit Apply and OK.
ALT + Enter
Switching from Fullscreen to windowed or vice versa might solve some of the issues you’re facing, but particularly, it is known for fixing black screen freezes.
Simply open Scavengers, and if it gets stuck, press ALT + Enter. The game should go to windowed or Fullscreen mode depending on whatever it was set to.
Verify Integrity of Game Files or Update
Sometimes a corrupted install or an out-of-date version of the game can cause some of these issues mentioned above. Firstly, check whether you’re running the latest version of the game, by checking for updates through the Steam suite.
If the game is updated, go to Properties, and then Local Files. Click the ‘Verify the integrity of game files’ button. The process will take a while, particularly if there are corrupted or missing files in your install. Try the game after it finishes.
Firewall Exception
Lastly, connection issues are commonly caused by the firewall. For some reason, the firewall system sometimes renders Scavengers, or any game as a threat to your network.
To add a firewall exception, go to the start menu and type in ‘Firewall’ and hit Enter. From there, click ‘Allow an app through Firewall’. Then, press ‘Change Settings’ and ‘Allow another app…’ click Browse, and then select Scavengers. Add it, and make sure Public and Private are both selected for it.
