The Silent Hill franchise may have been ‘silent’ for the past few years, but Konami has announced a whole bunch of incoming games, one of them being a remake of the fan-favorite Silent Hill 2. Development will be handled by Bloober Team, and they promise a ‘top-grade visual experience.’

Silent Hill 2 Remake Promises ‘Top-Grade Visual Experience’

Talking to GamingBolt, lead producer Maciej Głomb had this to say about the Silent Hill remake:

“It’s safe to say that visuals were always Bloober Team’s upper hand and I’m sure this will continue to be the case with the Silent Hill 2…  We did a lot of groundwork with[Masahiro] Ito-san at the beginning of the production to make sure that we are on the same page with our artistic vision for the game. Our 2D and 3D teams are the best ones in their fields of expertise so you can expect top-grade visual experience. We ran an early external test and it delivered positive feedback. Obviously, we still have a long way to go but I’m very optimistic going forward.”

Besides the visual developers at Bloober Team, the remake has also brought in Silent Hill art director and monster designer Masahiro Ito. Ito’s involvement will help make sure that the remake remains visually consistent with the original material.

While we should expect more or less the same content storywise when it comes to the remake, Bloober does promise a lot of changes from the original 2001 game from the added over-the-shoulder gameplay to changes in combat.

Here’s the official description for Silent Hill 2:

Having received a letter from his deceased wife,

James heads to where they shared so many memories,

in the hope of seeing her one more time: Silent Hill.

There, by the lake, he finds a woman eerily similar to her…

“My name…is Maria,” the woman smiles. Her face, her voice… She’s just like her.

Experience a master-class in psychological survival horror―lauded as the best in the series―on the latest hardware with chilling visuals and visceral sounds.

No release date has been announced for Silent Hill 2, but it’s possible we could be looking at a 2024 launch.
